Tamannaah is taking a small break, an unexpected one as her Telugu film which was supposed to start rolling in May has been pushed. Her Sura with Vijay released last week and her film with Jayam Ravi Thillalangadi is ready for release. The numero uno actress of Tamil cinema in conversation with Sridevi Sreedhar. Excerpts
What are the feedbacks that you are getting on Sura?
Well, Honestly, I never do a post-mortem of my films after the release. I am open to criticism and I take each and every feedback-good or bad in the right sense.
Where did you watch the film?
I watched it on the opening day along with audiences in PVR, Mumbai.
They say you had nothing to do and was just the glamour quotient in the film. Please comment?
I have never planned my career. Everything happened for the good. As a heroine, I can’t afford to be selective and Indian cinema is mainly male-dominated. Unlike Hollywood where scripts are written for heroines, here we just play second fiddle to heroes. And I don’t see anything wrong in it as all top actresses at one point of their career has done the same. As far as Sura goes, it was a pleasant experience for me. Vijay was very sweet. I enjoyed working with the entire unit.
How was it working with Vijay?
I was very excited to be a part of a Vijay film and was looking forward to dancing with him. It’s a pleasure to watch how gracefully and effortlessly he dances. I admire his cool and professional ways.
Were you able to relate to the character of Poornima that you played in the film?
(Smiles) No, I am not so stupid in real life to contemplate suicide if I lost my dog. It is a fantasy character who is unrealistic and funny. I had a blast in the comedy scenes with Vadivel. He used to give me valuable tips and I used to converse with him in my broken Tamil and sign language.
Do you think that you wore a bit too revealing costumes?
No, I have certain parameters when it comes to my costumes. I will only wear clothes, in which I am comfortable. The idea was indeed to look glamorous and Priya Manikandan my costume designer has done a good job. Please remember that even in Kedi till Ayan I have worn glamorous outfits in songs.
You are crowned as the numero uno actress in Kollywood today, after the super success of Paiyaa . Please comment
I am happy to hear that. But frankly, I am not a competitive person at all. I believe in my work speaking for myself. This entire talk of number one or five does not bother me. What really matters is that over a period of time, has your work being appreciated or not? I am always trying to better my performance and learn from mistakes.
So you don’t watch movies of other stars?
Oh yes, I do whenever I get time. Trisha was fantastic in Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya while Kajal Aggarwal was very good in the recent Telugu film Darling.
Are you a fun-loving person?
I am like any other 20-year old girl. When I am not shooting and is in Mumbai I go out for movies, malls and restaurants with my bunch of friends and have a ball.
What would you credit your success to besides God and destiny?
My hard work. I never give up (smiles)
